Palouse Photography Tour and Workshop: June 20-23, 2024 (June 19 early arrival optional, no extra charge)

from $1,197.00

Location: Pullman, WA and the surrounding “Palouse” region of South Eastern Washington

Date / Time: 5:00 PM, Thursday, June 20, in Pullman, WA (exact location shared upon registration). Early check-in on Wednesday, June 19 available.

Join me for a 4-day, 3-night photography tour and workshop in the Palouse region of Eastern Washington with the option of one additional day at no extra charge! Workshop fee includes lodging in a beautiful home in Pullman, Washington (seriously, this is a stunning place and easily a $500 value on it’s own).

A visit to the Palouse region of Eastern Washington is a visually stunning experience. Rural scenes here include rolling hills, vast skies, iconic barns, abandoned farmhouses, rusting vehicles, windmills, and colorful textured fields of wheat, canola, and other crops. Photographers from around the world visit to experience this unique landscape.

Workshop participants will visit Palouse Falls and Steptoe Butte, two of the most iconic locations on the Palouse. And we’ll visit many other locations along the way. I will be your tour guide and your photography instructor.

My goals will be to, first, make sure we are in the right place with the right light, and second, help you to come away with images that you love! We will work hands-on with your own equipment to help you gain mastery of composition and camera techniques. The workshop will be beneficial to beginners or experts and I’ll tailor my instruction to your personal needs. Personally, I still attend photo tours and workshops, not for specific camera instruction but for access to locations I’ve never been before and to spend time with other like-minded photographers. Whether instructing or attending, I always learn something new by observing how other photographers “see” the world around them.

We will only be doing a limited amount of walking/hiking on this trip as most scenes are visible from the roadside and we will NOT be walking through crops. Palouse Falls does offer some rugged terrain so each participant will need to manage their own comfort level with the proximity to the cliffs vs. the fenced viewing platforms.

Tour Includes:

  • 3 nights lodging in your own separate bedroom in Pullman, WA (June 22-25). (If you want to share a room with a friend for a $125 ea. discount, please let me know, they’re big rooms and some have extra beds in them.)

  • Optional early arrival at the house on Wednesday, June 19 at no additional charge. Arrive early, explore the area on your own, relax, or tag along with us for whatever we find to explore.

  • Guided tour to Palouse Falls, Steptoe Butte, and various other sites around the Palouse as dictated by weather and shooting conditions

  • Probably one or two evenings of astro photography depending on sky conditions and participant interest

  • One-on-one instruction with me

  • 1 post-processing / photo sharing session to illustrate my workflow and photo editing and where you can share and receive feedback on a few of your own images

  • Water, coffee, and snacks

What to Bring:

  • Camera kit including long lens (200 - 600mm are very helpful up on the butte), medium length lens, wide lens, tripod, circular polarized filter, and plenty of batteries and memory

  • Insulated mug for coffee, tea, or cocoa

  • Funds for food

  • Snacks

What to Expect:

We will be chasing light and weather conditions. As such we’ll be up early for sunrise and we’ll stay up late for sunset. During the brightest parts of the day we’ll rest, eat, share photos, edit, etc. We will probably attempt one or two nights of astro photography. Because we’ll be there in late June we’ll have a variety of conditions. It’s possible that some of the winter wheat will already be turning gold. Count on bright sunshine, wind, dust, clouds, a possible storm or two, and a very dynamic experience.

Fine Print and Legal Stuff:

Prices are between $1,197 and $1,497 (depending on your room choice, private and shared rooms available) and includes 3 nights lodging in a house in Pullman, WA. $300 will be considered a non-refundable deposit up until May 31, thereafter $700 will be non-refundable.

Attendance is at your own risk. You agree to hold Jake Egbert and Jake Egbert Photography harmless for any personal injury or loss that may occur during or in connection with the workshop. You are responsible for your own safety, and for your own equipment including vehicles that you may bring along on the trip. You should be aware of your own physical limitations and make sure not to exceed your own capabilities or endurance.

Travel insurance and equipment insurance are recommended. There are few rogue waves roaming the Palouse to drown your camera… but you never know.

I make no effort to vet attendees, so use caution when interacting with other workshop attendees. While I expect only the finest of human beings to attend my workshops and events there is no guarantee.

In the event of circumstances beyond our control (illness, weather, government shutdown, etc.) I reserve the right to cancel the trip and refund all workshop fees.
